Weekly Newsletter 25 - 31 May 2015

The weekend’s attention was focused on the X Health sponsored 2015 Kimberley Father and Son Golf Tournament. A particularly special annual occasion the Championship has enormous potential. This year it attracted entries from around the Northern Cape as well as the head of SAGA - Executive Director Bruce Young together with his son.
After round one Saturday afternoon Hotazel’s Neels and Werner Kleyns together with Kimberley’s Tinus and Hermus Venter were tied for the lead on 44 betterball points. The Hansens and the Alexanders were just one point behind on 43 points. Three betterballs followed on 42 points, with a further three on 41 points.
Inevitably it was the Sunday results that determined the final outcome in which just three points separated the top six betterballs. Ultimately a telling 44 betterball points on Sunday for an aggregate 86 points saw Willie and Jaco Delport the tournament winners as well as the 2015 Africa Father and Son Champions. Neels and Werner Kleyns were second on 85 points on a count out from third placed Johan and Helgard Hansen. Fires and Jan van Vuuren, who had also returned 44 points on Sunday, were fourth alone on 84 points. Henk Visser and Ben van Vuuren were fifth on a count out from sixth placed Tinus and Hermus Venter, both on 83 points.

Saturday’s IPS for those outside the Championship saw three players return 39 individual stableford points. The count out determined Eddie Barkhuizen first, Pierre de Klerk second and Steven Turner third.

Saturday’s draw for a “5 liter bottle of KWV 5 Year Old” saw Charles Malherbe the winner.

A count out on 20 points was required in the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner. Donald Whitebooi was first with Jehan Ricards second. OJ Maimane was third on 19 points on account out from Kumar Anoop. Flex Rantoa was the final prize winner on 18 points.

Kabela Leburu posted 21 points to take the Thursday KWV Niner. Jody van Wyk and Peter Salo were second and third, both on 19 points.

Barend Burger and Adriaan Mclaren claimed the Annabell’s Betterball Stableford Wednesday returning 49 betterball points. This was just one point ahead of the runners up Willie Delport and Keith Brown. The latter carded a gross 68 for his third sub 70 round in a week. Four betterballs returned 45 points, Tony Datnow and Don Fielding winning the count out for third spot.

This week the KGC hosts the Leon’s House of Liquor IPS Wednesday and the Spur Junior Challenge and the KWV Niner on Thursday. On Friday it is the BMW Golf Day, a closed tournament by invitation only. On Saturday it is the Wesley Methodist Church sponsored Monthly Medal.
