Weekly Newsletter 21-25 July 2015

Pierre Fourie and Johan Theron paid scant regard to the drop in temperature Saturday when they carded a gross 74 and a gross 75 for 43 and 41 points to take first and second spot respectively in round two of the Pennypinchers Winter Meat Challenge. Kariem Anderson was third on 39 points with Danie Liebenberg, Christaricco Gordon and Johnny Cloete the final prize winners all on 37 points.

Pieter Bergh (39), Ricardo Joesph (35) and Alvin Botes (33) were the A, B and C division winners in the Under 21 GW Rugby Golf Day played on Friday. Keith Brown, Neville Alexander and Willie Delport were similarly the respective division runners up. The final division prize winners were Marius van Niekerk, Ivan Coetzee and Kat Swanepoel.

Fareez Alexander posted an unchallenged 23 points to win the Friday Sun Flamingo
Niner. Mali Manana was second on 18 points with Andries Kori and Joanie Herselman third and fourth on 17 points. Danie Liebenberg was the final prize winner on 15 points.

On Thursday afternoon the Crozier brothers in a familiar role raised the bar, so to speak, in recording the very first 8 pointers in the KWV Powerplay Niner after carding successive birdies at the nominated par three 14th. Their 22 and 20 points respectively placed Ant Crozier first and Wedge Crozier second on the day. Jehan Richards, who endured a penalty minus 2 at his nominated Powerplay hole, returned a very creditable 19 points to take third place.

Harry Welham produced the headline act in Wednesday’s Annabell’s Restaurant sponsored monthly betterball competition. Playing the pivotal role in his covey and returning a net 67 he returned a winning 47 points with Kassie Potgieter and a third placed 43 points with Gary Hepburn in a count out. Christo Swanepoel and Bennie Kruger, who also posted 43 points, were deemed the runners up.

A threeway count out on 12 points was required to determine the Cleveland Golf sponsored Tuesday Super Six Golf Tournament. The end result was Luchmen Poonawassy first, Wayne Petersen second and Christo Botma third.

This week the KGC offers the Super Six Tournament on Tuesday, a betterball stableford on Wednesday and the Spur Junior Challenge and the KWV Powerplay Niner on Thursday. On Friday it is the Sun Flamingo Niner and the CTCS draw followed by a Club Night. On Saturday the time sheet will be adjusted to accommodate the Diamond Sub Union Kimberley outing as well as the Sport in Sight August Rhodes Medal.
