SUNDAY SEALING SOLUTIONS LEAGUE
A limited entry was
undertaken in the Sunday Sealing Solutions League. The biggest gain achieved
was by Happy Hookers who earned 19 points, while Pinseekers earned 14 points
and the Playas earned 12 points.
FRIDAY / SATURDAY RYDER CUP
On Friday and Saturday
the KGC hosted the Ryder Cup style challenge, a biannual event played home and
away between Team GP and the Kimberley Pretenders. Played over three rounds the
visitors gave due warning of their serious intention in the opening round, winning
the betterball matchplay 5 and 1. In the
Saturday morning foursomes the hosts applied the brakes winning 3 ½ to 2 ½.
However, they still trailed by 3. Finally, an on the edge of the seat afternoon
that went down to the final pair, saw the hosts take the singles 8 to 4 and
once again lift the trophy on home ground.
SATURDAY MONTHLY MEDAL
Saturday’s competition
of the day was the Pennypinchers sponsored Monthly Medal and the occasion wholly
belonged to Andries Kori. His dropped
shot at the par four fifth was in complete contrast to his remaining 17 holes
in which he fired ten pars, six birdies and an eagle to post a magnificent seven
under par gross 65 to comfortably claim the low round of the day. Playing off a
plus 2 his net 67 also accorded him the best net overall in a count out. Team
mate Nico Jacobs who carded a gross 69, received best net A division after
losing that count out on net 67. Hermus Venter was the runner up in that
division on net 70. Donald Whitebooi recorded best net B division on net 68
with Attie van Niekerk the runner up on net 69.
SATURDAY SENIOR SOCIETY OUTING
In the Saturday
Senior Society outing, a combined stableford based on a drawn card, Attie van
Niekerk and “hard to beat” Harry Welham produced a winning 74 points, just one
ahead of Pat Ansley and Gavin Schafer, the runners up on 73 points. Dave Wilson
and Casper der Geist were third on 68 points.
FRIDAY KHS CLASSIC
On Friday the
competition of the day was the Kimberley Boys High School annual golf
fundraiser, a betterball stableford in which 45 points was the top score. A
count out placed Les Barret and Lennie Allen first and Gerhard Kruger and
Christiaan Voight second. Three betterballs followed on 43 points – Garth Lee
and Shaun October (third), Mali Manana and Marumo Sethlare (fourth) and Ricardo
Joseph and Allen Meyers (fifth). In all the prizes went down to tenth position.
FRIDAY SUN FLAMINGO NINER
The prize winners in
the Friday Sun Flamingo Niner were Fareez Alexander (20), Kumar Anoop (19),
Luchmen Poonawassy (18), Parks Mashaboa (14) and Deuce Leburu (10).
THURSDAY GBADS CLASSIC
28 Teams that
included over 100 competitors from round the country as well as from
Switzerland and Ireland took part in the annual GBADS Classic Thursday
afternoon. The Gunners Association which included WO2 Brian Sweetnam, Major
Chris Oosthuizen, Schalk and Christo Botma were the overall GBADS winners.
Runners up and winners of the Starstreak Trophy were Rheinmetall Air Defence
which included Majoe Neil Steyn, Lt. Colonel James Keating, Leon van Wyk and
Nigel Page.
WEDNESDAY LEON’S IPS
Hard to beat Harry
“Houdini” Welham completed his final trick Wednesday afternoon with 42
individual stableford points and another new handicap WHILE WINNING THE Leons
House of Liquor IPS. In all, handicap- wise, he has managed to make 5 strokes
disappear in just over a month. Willie Delport, the runner up, returned 41
points. A count out on 40 points placed Siewert Wiid third and John Lankester
first reserve.
TUESDAY SUPER SIX TOURNAMENT
Brian Daniels
returned 14 points to comfortably win the Cleveland Golf sponsored Super Six
Tournament onTuesday evening. Allen Meyers and Bernie Bennett were second and
third, each on 12 points.
COMING UP
Through the week the
KGC will host the Cleveland Golf sponsored Super Six Tournament on Tuesday, the
Konica Minolta Business League outing on Wednesday as well as the Spur under 23
Challenge and the KWV Powerplay Niner on Thursday. On Friday it is the BEE
Executive Business outing, the Sun Flamingo Niner and the CTCS draw. On
Saturday there will be a standard Club competition.
