Sunday
Whatever the match results a “hole in one” on the short par three 11th was the highlight of day for Schalk Grobbelaar (Jnr) in Sunday’s Sealing Solutions League outing. He did confirm that they, Sultans of Swing, won the hole. They also went on to win the match two up. Overall Kimberley Batteries enjoyed the best results in the A League, 16 points. Saturday
Aside from the draw for the double bed, the hallmark of the annual St Albans Church Golf Fundraiser, played Saturday, is the quality and the quantity of snacks on offer after the game. Coupled with the introduction of the “Casual Tea trailer that makes you hungry” between nines it was difficult to distinguish which took precedence – golf or gastronomy. Such was the flavour of the day that even the Crozier brothers were spotted eating twice. This was a first in the long history of the KGC.
Golf-wise the winning IPS scores matched the culinary delights, Ryan Oliver (43), Leon King (42), Reynier Bekker (42), Hennie van Resburg (41), Nico Ross (40) and Yusuf Kana (39).
In the Ladies betterball competition Linda Dobson and Susan Ferreira were first on 43 points with Susan Alexander and Helena Janse the runners up on 39 points on a count out.

SA Interforces Championship hosted at KGC
The SA Interforces Championship was hosted at the KGC last week. The cream of the golfing crop from the SA Police, SA Correctional Services and the SANDF teams played some great golf. It was the SA Police team who took top honours in the competition.

Top Performance by Lumien

A highlight on the SA Womens golf calendar is the SA Amateur Matchplay Championships completed last week at the Ebotse Links. One handicapper Lumien Orton, who currently plays and practices most of her golf at the KGC, in a sterling effort made it through to the finals. Four down at the midway mark against Milnerton GC’s Cara Gorlei she enjoyed a remarkable comeback that included three birdies in the last four holes and most importantly the 2016 SA Championship Title.
